The new historical fiction Sans nouvelles depuis Drancy of French writer, journalist and photographer David Hury is now published by Riveneuve Editions (Paris, 2024).

After Davids former novel Mustapha s'en va-t-en guerre, this is definitly a book to read for those interested in the former French colonial era.

Sans nouvelles depuis Drancy is the result of 3 years rigorous research into the archives of the army, the police, newspapers and the Shoah Memorial, as well as with the last remaining witnesses, reviewed by Shoah historian Renée Poznanski.

"La petite fille au bord de l'eau" by Thibaut Odiette

French writer Thibaut Odiette is publishing his first novel entitled La petite fille au bord de l'eau (Librinova, 2024).

Alongside Adèle, the reader travels across the vast expanse deserted by the waters in pursuit of "The Man of the Sea".

Somewhere between a fairytale and a novel of anticipation, this is above all an ode to Nature to which the author invites us.

L'écrivain français Thibaut Odiette publie son premier roman intitulé La petite fille au bord de l'eau (Librinova, 2024).

Le lecteur parcourt aux côtés d’Adèle la vaste étendue désertée par les eaux à la poursuite de «L’homme de la mer».

Entre conte et roman d’anticipation, c’est avant tout une ode à la Nature à laquelle l'auteur nous convie.

Extrait

Sa petite main tenait, serré, un caillou long et épais comme un silex. Adèle était assise à l’entrée de la grotte. Ses longs cheveux bouclés, couleur de sable, flottaient dans le vent venu de la mer. Elle gravait une fleur dans la paroi. C’était son rituel quotidien, celui d’une petite fille solitaire de huit ans.

Un an plus tôt, après avoir traversé à marée basse le bras de mer séparant ce bout de terre du reste de l’Île des Pins, elle était descendue avec son père dans cette cavité qui s’ouvrait en contrebas dans la falaise. Autrefois il y avait gravé un A.

— Pour marquer ta venue, lui avait-il dit.

Le niveau de la mer avait depuis baissé. L’entrée de la grotte se situait maintenant très au-dessus du niveau de la mer.

Gabriel, avait ajouté :— Nous allons laisser la marque de notre passage.Il avait pris le poignet de sa fille. Ensemble ils avaient gravé un trait.— Tu reviendras dans un an et tu en traceras un autre à côté, avait-il dit.

"Tulpaner" by Agnes Gerner

Swedish poet Agnes Gerner has published a new collection of poems entitled "Tulpaner" (Albert Bonniers Förlag, 2024).

It is a collection of poems about life and survival, about motherhood and motherlessness, about a birth that emphasises a loss.

The book cover is illustrated with a pastel painting by Åsa Magnusson.
