The project Swedish Country Churches (Landsbygdskyrkor / Eglises de campagne suédoises) focuses on the smallest and most unknown of all the churches of Sweden, and specifically those in two regions, Västergötland and Värmland, with the aim of spotlighting their beauty and originality. One fascinating thing they have in common is that they have hand-painted interiors, dating from different periods of history.

The project is directed by Philippe Bouquet, former professor of Scandinavian languages at the University of Caen (France) and a very talented translator from Swedish literature into French with over 150 published books.

The project concluded with the production of a book which gonna present 30 churches. The foreword and the texts for each church are written by Philippe Bouquet (Swedish, French and English), and all the photographs are taken by Laurent Denimal.

We 've got the support of the Church of Sweden (Svenska Kyrkan), with a recommandation letter from the Research and Analysis Unit (Uppsala), and financial support from the Swedish Royal Patriotic Society (Kungliga Patriotiska Sällskapet).

A simplified map show the churches localisation in Västergötland and Värmland, and a few photographs of the project are presented. You can see even more pictures here.

I participated during two days (17-18 September) at the Book Festival which took place in Höganäs (south of Sweden) in the new restored event and exhibition hall Blå Hallen.

I could present the six photo books I published and also exhibit a few portraits of writers. Thanks to the Höganäs Book Festival team for giving me the opportunity to take part of the festival !

And I also could meet and photograph ten writers on behalf of the Opale agency (left to right, clockwise); Kjell Westö (Finland), Andrzej Tichy (Sweden), Asta Fanney Sigurđardóttir (Iceland), Julia Ravanis (Sweden), Conny Palmkvist (Sweden), Anna-Karin Palm (Sweden), Andri Snær Magnason (Iceland), Marie Lundström (Sweden), Einar Kárason (Iceland), Gunnar Bolin (Sweden).

All the photographs for theses writers are available now at the Opale agency in Paris.

An exhibition of fifteen photographs of Italians authors is now online at the New Italian Books website.

New Italian Books is the site that promotes Italian publishing, language and culture in the world. I'ts in Italian, French and English.

Thanks to the Italian Cultural Institute “Carlo Maurilio Lerici” in Stockholm for giving me the opportunity to meet and photograph so many Italian writers.

All the portraits are available at the Agence Opale.

Five of these authors are among the 78 authors whose portraits appear in my latest book, Portraits d’auteurs / Author Portraits, published by Carlsson in Stockholm in 2020.
